.The village of Parrini, Partinico (PA)
The village of Parrini is a hamlet, made up by a few poor houses that are being restored and settled in the namesake district which is located 3 km far from the city of Partinico.
During the winter, it’s regularly inhabited by a dozen people who are largely involved in farming and pastoralism, while in the summer it accomodates a copious number of tourists.
It was probably built at the beginning of the XVIII century when the Jesuits of the Collegio Massimo in Palermo bought this land and built a small church dedicated to Maria SS. del Rosario with a sun clock on the lateral view, storehouses and also residential buildings for the people who managed and farmed this plot of land.
In 1959 another church was built because of the unconformity of the old one.
The Jesuits, other than religious men, were landowners, productors and merchants of their own products and they archieved incredible results.
Their work was mainly based on the cultivation of vineyards and citrus groves, and it could count on a solid building used as a storage which is still existing in Corso dei Mille in Partinico and known as “House of the shoulder”.
Once the Jesuits lost their influence over the lands in the Parrini district, the village was abandoned.
Nowadays, the new church conserves a rare oil-painting representing Maria SS. del Ponte.
This antique Village is now “coming back to life” thanks to the restaurants and pubs that offer typical dishes.
