The floating and the sinking of some objects
Tasks of the experiment:
- They observe and describe the indicated objects;
- They put on the water surface every object and describe what happens;
- They clasify the objects according to their behaviour when they are sinked in the water.
Materials needed: Wood objects, float, feathers, papaer boats, tiny rocks, plastic objects, glass objects, metal objects,
water, individual bowls with water.
Steps of the experiment:The children named and described the objects on the table
Under the teacher’s surveillance they put on the water surface the objects, one at a time.
They will notice that some are flaoting and others are sinking.
The children will form two groups of objects: the group of the sinking objects and the group of the floating objects.
The objects that are floating are easier than the water. There are other objects that initially sink, but then, if they are filled with air, they float, like: a rubber ball, the ship, a bottle filled with air. The children will notice that some of the objects will sink and some of them will float to the surface of the water.
