Svenska to St Ex 3: our experience of the SDGs

  • The things we have done for sustainable development here

On the first Monday of our journey we visited a recycling plant and a tire recycling place with one of the classes. There we got to meet the people who work with recycling and how the system works. At the tire place we learnt about all the different ways you can use old tires to make something new.

We have listened to numerous informative presentations about sustainable future in La Réunion, held by students. We have also presented the different ways we develop sustainable future in Oulu.

The school has a gardening program where people from different classes get to work for a greener future in school. We got the opportunity to follow and see what they were doing. It was very interesting, and it would be good to have that in other schools as well. Every class has two representatives in an eco-group and we participated in one of their meetings. It was in French, but we understood the majority.

Last week we visited Kélonia, a rescuing place for the turtles. Kélonia is kind of a rehab place where they take care of turtles who can’t manage on their own. When the turtles are capable of being on their own again, they are released back in to the ocean.

This is the last week. During it we planted a tree on the schoolground. We named it Gustav.

We also participated in the “Fridays for future” protest in Saint-Leu. For the protest we had a sign with Greta Thunberg’s famous quote “Skolstrejk för klimatet”.

Now it is Saturday morning and we are packing our bags, because today we are heading home. It has been a wonderful time, but we do miss home. See you soon vår kära SPSU.
