    1. Turn off appliances and lights that you’re not using.
    2. Install/use energy-efficient appliances.
    3. Use a programmable thermostat that lowers or raises the temperature when you’re not home.
    4. Open windows to allow a breeze instead of turning on the air conditioning.
    5. Hang clothes to dry instead of using the dryer.
    6. Use an electric teakettle rather than a stove top kettle to boil water.
    7. Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs).
    8. EAT and BUY FOOD WISELY. First, actually eat all the food you buy.
    Then, at least one meat-free day a week - since 18% of greenhouse gas emissions come from meat production.
    Third, buy locally. Best of all, if you can, grow some of your food yourself.

    1. DISPOSE WITH DISPOSABLES. When you make a purchase, consider the item’s life expectancy.
    2. RECYCLE. Recycle as much as possible!
    3. RESELL AND DONATE ITEMS. Items that you no longer need can get an extended life through resale and donation.
    4. DRINK FROM THE TAP.
    5. SAVE WATER. Conserve household water use.
    6. RELY LESS ON CARS.
    7. PURCHASE FAIR-TRADE PRODUCTS. When you purchase items that are imported from all over the world — particularly coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, chocolate, and fruit — look for the fair-trade certification.
    10. SPEAK UP. If you think a politician or a company is failing to take the issue of global warming seriously, then voice your concerns. Let them know what you think!
