    March cultivation indoors
March's theme is indoor cultivation. We have used the projectmoney to buy soil and seeds. The children was able to choose what they wanted to grow. Since it would be indoor cultivation or provided for outdoor cultivation, we chose not to buy the plants and seeds to plant outdoors directly in the soil, even if the children wanted it. We saved their wishlist and in May when outdoor culture is the theme we want to buy plants to fullfill their wishes. “Children have the right to participate and influence. The needs and interests expressed by the children themselves in different ways should form the basis for the design of the environment and the planning of the education ”(Lpfö18; p: 16). By allowing the children to decide what they want to grow, we give them an opportunity to influence.
We used old food packaging when we grew. Most groups have used milkcartons for growing. The children have had to make them personalized in different ways. Write names of what is planted or painted and decorated the cartons. The preschool has been careful not to use, for example, toilet rolls as they have not had food in them and may contain toxins that one should not eat. On the other hand, we wanted to use recycled material when growing to show how easy it is to procure a cultivation box. Everything does not have to be new, but in order for us to have a sustainable world in the future, we must recycle. Social sustainability is important for cultivation activity. The children had to remind eachother to water their crops. We did it together. We tasted eachothers vegetables and fruits and enjoyed eachothers flowers. “Children should also be given the opportunity to develop knowledge about how the different choices people make can contribute to sustainable development - both economically and socially and environmentally” (lpfö18; s, 9). By using recycled milkcartons we save not only the environment but also money. By doing it together and taking part in each other's farms, the children see more than just what they do.
