Bifrost förskola January

  • During the month of January we at Bifrost Preschool have implemented / initiated two actions. The monthly theme of the project is weather and climate.

    1. Hall map where the children can see weather, clothes and time.
    2. Seasonal tree where the children can follow a tree's development for a year.

    1 Hall maps
With the new curriculum that all preschools in Sweden must follow from June 2019, we have received a new paragraph called "Sustainable development and health and well-being" (lpfö 18, page 9). Here, emphasis is placed on exercise, health and outdoor living for the children's well-being. In order to show the children how the weather and climate affect us, all departments of weather, time and clothing maps are clearly visible to the children. Every day, an educator and the children go through what it is for day, weather and what the children need to wear to stay warm and dry outdoors. Because the children get a large part of their daily exercise outdoors, it is important that they wear warm, waterproof, protective and spacious clothing. Through pictures with text and sometimes sign language ,the children can see what they should wear to get a fun, rewarding and enjoyable outdoor experience.
The maps look different in different departments because they are adapted to the children's age and conditions in the groups.
The goal and purpose of the maps is for the children to see how the climate affects them through time and weather. If it is January, snow and cold outside, they must wear overalls, hat, mittens and winter shoes. Is it May, sun and warm outside it is enough with a sweater, cap and sneakers.

    2 The season tree

Because the children take pictures on one and the same tree once a week for a year, we want the children to see how the weather and climate affect nature. The curriculum states that the children are given the opportunity to develop "understanding of relationships in nature and for the different cycles of nature, and for how people, nature and society influence each other" (lpfö 18, page 14). When the children follow a nature trail or, as this case, a tree for a long time, the preschool offers an opportunity for the children to see nature's cycle and the climate's impact on nature. Through regular visits to the forest we want to link this activity to our green flag-target animal and nature: How can we live in interaction with nature. In order to stay in our school forest, the children must learn about the rights and obligations they have towards our nature sites and the animals that live there. Before we started to go to the forest, we have learned about the public right by reading literature from HSR that is aimed at preschool children. Through this action, the preschool wants to describe how we work with the BusyBee project's "consider how the life cycle of the flowering, plant relates to the weather and seasons".
