Luther (Germany)

  • Do you know this man?

Martin Luther was a German monk and theologian of Christianity. He changed the church in Europe,as he started the "Protestant Reformation".  So in the  XVI century

Protestant churches  split from the Roman Catholic church.

In October 1517, Luther wrote his 95 Theses. Many people think that he put them on the door of a church in Wittenberg, but this is not sure.

At that time, the Catholic Church was selling indulgences to get out of purgatory, and go right to Heaven after death. He questioned that. He also translated the Bible into German. Luther also

preached against the Catholic Church's demands that ministers cannot marry.

Luther"s writings were accepted in the UNESCO register of "Memory of  the World" in 2016.

In 2017 the Reformation was celebrated in Europe. In our local area a lot of services, ceremonies and concerts took place.

Look, at present there are a lot of caricatures and articles in our local newspaper

    (MT, 31 October):

"I think you call that "# hashtag" nowadays. Luther is living!"  (translation)
