Description of the mathematical board game "INFINITY"

(Zakladna skola Benkova 34, Nitra, Slovakia)

INFINITY GAME is a simple mathematical board game aimed to revise or strengthen different math topics. Teachers and pupils have created 108 playing cards covering 6 basic Math areas of the 6th grade together.

Its game board, designed by our pupil Lilly (13), depicts the symbol of “horizontal eight“ which describes the continuous process of infinite learning – that´s where the game takes its name from.

The Player has to reach the finish as fast as possible completing the tasks on playing cards. Colour of rolled playing field decides on a specific math topic.

There are also some funny non-mathematical commands to practise basic English and to develop a positive and collaborative atmosphere in class.

Our INFINITY game offers infinite number of variations and extensions – different levels, different subjects, different areas.

    Enjoy J

Description of the mathematical game "Rolling Cubes"

There are 3 types A, B, C of the game. From 2 to 6 players can play the game.

    How to play.

Game A. The set consists of 3 cubes. You need a sheet of paper and a pencil. Two cubes are similar with the numbers 15, 20, 25, 50, 100 and 200 on the walls. Another cube contains calculation functions +, +, -, -, x, x. A participant of the game rolls all 3 cubes and performs a calculation function, which he can see on the cubes. The result he writes on the paper. Results are summed by the participants individually. The answers are visible to all participants. After the agreed number of repetitions the game ends. The winner is that participant, who has the highest amount.

Game B. One of the cubes with numbers is changed to a cube with numbers and one empty wall (without any number) The wall means that the participant who rolled this wall should skip his calculation. Others rules are similar to game A.

Game C. The game is intended for pupils of the youngest age or for students with special needs. These cubes contain lower numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and  4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

The set of the game contains files ( .stl) for printing all those cubes with a 3Dprinter:

TWO SETS of larger cubes (5x5x5 cm) with numbers 15, 20, 25, 50, 100 and 200. You can print easily. The cubes are suitable for outdoor play.

The games with dice hugged us. They are very simple and easy to adapt during lessons. We noticed that those students who get bored with math often don’t even know multiply tables well. So, we've printed the dice that can help you overcome this hurdle by simply organizing a short game. Who will quicker count 5 throw responses? Who will answers 5 times correctly? Trow 2 game dice and count the numbers which you see. The game starts...

From our second meeting in Osmaniye, Turkey, we brought back three more cubes made by local craftsmen from the mineral. These heavy cubes are very cute and we want to count them by rolling them all together. Just add as many dots as you can see in all the cubes. Or maybe we can compete to see who gets the most out of the ten rolls?

Another simple game for those who have some difficulties adding, subtracting or multiplying. Randomly generate a two-digit number, then roll 4 or 5 dice and then use the numbers on the dice in any combination you like (adding, taking away, multiplying or dividing). See how close you can get to the target number. Count the numbers of the differences. Wins who has the smallest number of 5 differences.
