    April: Students from Portugal:

Vila Franca de Xira  is a city and municipality in the Lisbon District in Portugal. The area of 318.19 km² Situated on both banks of the Tagus river, 32 km north-east of the Portuguese capital Lisbon, settlement in the area dates back to neolithic times, as evidenced by findings in the Cave of Pedra Furada. Vila Franca de Xira is said to have been founded by French followers of Portugal's first king, Alfonso Henriques, around 1200.

The town is mostly famous for its bull-running festivals in July and October. Bulls are raised in the salty marshlands of the Ribatejo, which is also a notable breeding ground for the magnificent Lusitano horse, esteemed for its quick reflexes and manoeuvrability. A number of brightly coloured Portuguese bullfighting costumes are on display in the ethnographic museum in the town's bullring, the Praca de Toiros. Nearby, the town's Misericórdia church features striking 18th-century glazed tiles. The town also has a  Museum of Neo-Realism.

This easter holidays students continue to work on the Minecraft Edu project. We have a new building. The firefighters headquarter is a building created by 7th-grade students. It's visitable inside. Now another group is working in a new building. All the buildings are built on a 1:1 scale (1 long block equal to 1 meter in real life).

Napoleon Bonaparte gave the manor of Zypliai to Duke Joseph Poniatowski, who died in 1813. the estate was inherited by his sister Terese Tiškevičienė.  As in many parts of Lithuania, manors were sold, donated and passed from hand to hand. Manors flourished or were abandoned depending on the owners. One of the last owners of the manor was duke Tom Potocki. He took care of the buildings and park, renewed all of the homesteads.

In 1919 the seminary of priests was settled here because the manor was sold. Later an agricultural school was opened. During the war and post-war period, there was a hospital, a collective farm office and so on.

In 2002 a renovation works started. In 2012 the renovated manor house was opened for public visit. The Ethnographic Museum and pottery workshop was settled in a former carriages house. Now many artworks, drawings, handworks from roks, wood, iron and glass are on display. Life of art people is flourishing in the manor. Concerts, performances, Plein airs, camps take place. About 10 thousand people visit the manor here every year. Tourists have the possibility to stay in the manor and taste the manor cuisine dishes.

    • 21.02.2021. Raimundas and Nojus, Lithuania, built Gediminas Tower:
    • The symbol of Vilnius is visible from many spots in the Old Town and is portrayed in numerous works of art. It is one of the best places to see the magnificent panoramas of Vilnius. Climb Gediminas’ Hill and admire the sunset or go up even higher to the top of the Gediminas Tower for more spectacular views. The red roofs of Vilnius, the church towers, and the narrow streets of the Medieval Old Town are stunning sight. The tower houses a historic exhibition displaying reconstruction models of the castles of Vilnius, an armament, and iconographic material of old Vilnius.

Remigijus also built Gediminas Castle and performs calculations

With "Ford Otosan" and "Wish" Secondary School students, what is architectural design? We did a lecture on the subject. In addition, we learned the way to make our dream structures with the computer-aided design program "TINKERCAD".

    Dovydas built Raudonė Castle

The first castles on the left bank of river Nemunas were built around 1300 years ago as defensive posts against the Crusaders attacks. After the Battle of Grunwald in 1410 the importance of the defensive castles decayed. In the 16th  and 17th centuries, the river Nemunas became a main trade road and castles started flourishing again.  Raudonė  Castle is one of such a second-generation representative castles.

A piece of history. A German Order (Crusaders order) was founded in 1190. It was an order of knights. The order was subordinate to the pope and the Emperor of Germany. Pope Innocent the 3rd  named the main goals of the Order. It was a defence of knights, treatment of patients and fight against enemies of the catholic church. Lithuanians were pagans at that time, so they were enemies of the Catholic church. The knights killed enemies and plundered their settlements. Only The battle of Grunwald stopped them.

During the 1st world war, Raudone castle was heavily plundered and devastated.  At the end of world war 2,  German soldiers exploded the southern great tower, which in turn destroyed part of the housing on the south side. The tower was 34.5 meters high.

In the Soviet era, the castle was rebuilt and a primary school was established. In 1968 the great tower was restored also. The buildings' whole complex was adapted to the primary school, so it lost its historical interior.

Nowadays many tourists visit the castle. Especially they like the viewpoint from the top of the tower. Tourists enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Nemunas river. There is an ethnographic museum as well.

The living volume of the castle = 5083 m3!

    Martynas, (Lithuania) built Lekeciai church

The beginning of this church is mentioned by a wooden chapel built in 1843. 1906 a parish was established here. Its first pastor, Justinas Staugaitis, enlarged the chapel and developed it into a church named St. Casimir. 1907 a branch of the Žiburis Society was established in 1908-1910 there was a branch of the Lithuanian Catholic Sobriety Society.
The church is a form of folk architecture. Local people donated money to build the church and designed and built the church themselves. The grandparents of almost everyone living here have contributed to the construction.
There are wooden columns between the windows in the sidewalls of the church, which are a rarity in Lithuanian wooden churches. The church is small and cosy, loved by the locals.
