  •   For our small country school the opportunity to be involved in an international project is very important. We let the local community know about the aims and tasks of the project in October and we have given a promise to keep our community informed about our progress.

KERTU BIRGIT ANTON lecturing in VÕSU SCHOOL

    29 January 2020

As one of the aims of our project is raising the awareness of global climate problems in te world, one of the topics of the project is Climate. We discussed and learned the problem in the English classes studying thoroughly air pollution problems and finished up with a wider range of phenomena influencing the climate and causing climate changes today.

One day a member of our school's Parents' Board Mrs Tamm spotted the students' posters about climate changes on the wall of the classroom. She is an active climate activist herself. First, she introduced our students' posters on the Facebook and as she thought it could be a great idea to introduce the work of the students of a small country school more widely, she invited a young climate activist Kertu Birgit to our school.

Kertu Birgit Anton is together with Kristin Siil one of the most outstanding climate activists in Estonia who every Friday have rallies against global warming in the world and introduce nature friendly lifestyle. They got the idea from the Swedish girl Greta Thunberg and carry on her ideas in Estonia. Kertu, has given numerous interviws, written articles, appeared in a number of debates on Tv, taken part in conferences, etc. In the press she has often been compared to Greta Thunberg.

Kertu Birgit is a year-11 student in Tallinn Reaalgümnaasium, that means she is almost of the same age as our students. We were very lucky to have her in our school telling about her views on Climate Changes and introducing the Fridays for Future Estonia that she attends every Friday since March 2019.

After the lecture the school community and the guests had a good opportunity to watch a film which took part in the Matsalu Nature Film Festival competition - UseLess. Thank you, Mrs M. Tamm for arranging the film show.
