VÕSU SCHOOL                                                           

Võsu School is situated on the territory of Lahemaa National Park in the summer resort village of Võsu. It is in Northern Estonia on the coast of The Gulf of Finland, about 70 kilometres to the east of the capital, Tallinn. Our school is a primary school having 9 classes with learners between the ages of 7 and 16. Our 63 learners come not from only one village but from about 12 little villages of Vihula Municipality surrounding. Every morning the school buses take the students to school.

The 16 teachers in our school have required education. They regularly attend seminars and take part in teacher training courses in order to refresh and develop their teaching skills.

The majority of the families have lived in Vihula Municipality for several generations. In addition to the 60 learners in the school part Võsu School comprises three playschools. The one that works in the same building with the school  has about 20 children between the ages of 2 and 6 years with 3 playschool teachers. The other two playschools work in the neighbouring villages of Palmse (about 8 km from Võsu) and Vihula (about 15 km from Võsu).

 Among our learners there are 3 students who have difficulties in learning,  and need special help from the staff with their studies.

Kids with special needs are given an opportunity to develop in the way similar to their healthy mates. In most classes they study together with their classmates, they are encouraged to cooperate with them, they develop social skills, they become more self-confident and as independent as possible. On the other hand, healthy children learn how to behave and take care of others in a proper way.

Võsu School is the only school in the area. So, the school and the local municipality government are tightly interrelated. Our school plays an important role in the life of the local community and is of great importance to the local government.
