Our fourth transnational meeting at the partner school in Latvia in November 2019 is expected to work as an intermediary evaluation meeting, exactly like the previous ones. At this point we, as partner teachers, will be able to re-evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the completed learning, teaching, training activities and make preparations for the activities to follow. The participant teachers, apart from focusing on the intermediary evaluation report of the project, are going to be trained in differentiated teaching for immigrants and students with special needs and learning difficulties. Given that not all of our learners grasp a subject in the same way or share the same level of ability or participation, we should all focus on how we can better deliver our lessons to reach everyone in class. Differentiating instruction may mean teaching the same material to all students using a variety of instructional strategies, or it may require the teacher to deliver lessons at varying levels of difficulty based on the ability of each student. Therefore, paricipant teachers will be trained by their colleagues in Latvia to:
* design and deliver lessons based on their pupils' learning styles
* promote a collaborative teaching approach and group learners by shared interest, topic, or ability for assignments
* assess the learners' learning using formative assessment
* manage the classroom to create a safe and supportive environment
* assess and adjust lesson content to meet students’ needs
However demanding and challenging this may be, guest teachers will have the opportunity to attend training seminars on the topic and attend actual differentiated teaching taking place in the classroom during different kinds of school subjects. After contemplating on the theoretical background, teachers will be asked to present their national approach regarding immigrant learners and learners with special needs and specific learning difficulties, as well as the one adopted and adapted in their teaching context. Finally, they will be invited to plan and deliver a lesson employing the differentiated teaching approach and basing it on the manipulation of reality in photography. “A picture is worth a thousand words” of course, but a picture can be misleading. In photography, a change of framing or composition can completely change the content or the message. The teachers will be required to involve all learners and manage to develop their local, national and European cultural awareness, their critical thinking skills, their English language skills and their communication, social and life skills, while enhancing their familiarization with ICT tools while publishing their thoughts, conclusions and experience. This activity will be integrated in the school curriculum as a cross-curricular project.
Hello dear friends
I would like to summarize what the goals of out next meeting are. First of all, all partners will be asked to present the general context of education in their country regarding immigrant young learners and learners with special needs or learning difficulties. Secondly, after our Latvian friends presenting a differentiated lesson for immigrants or students with special needs or difficulties, all the others will have the opportunity to plan and deliver a lesson employing the differentiated teaching approach through photography; or present what they have already done with their pupils in class during the last months.
I' m just reminding you of bringing in Latvia all the material prepared in order for us to do a workshop on uploading on e-twinning Erasmus blog and mobility tool.
That's all for now. Please be free to ask for anything you need.
Regards
