3rd meeting in Bulgaria (presentations and more)

  • Our third transnational meeting at the partner school in Bulgaria, is expected to work as an intermediary evaluation meeting, as well as the previous one. In May 2019 we have planned to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the completed learning, teaching, training activities and make preparations for the following activities. About three teachers from each partner school are going to join the meeting and there will be learners mobility involved, too. The participant teachers, apart from focusing on the intermediary evaluation report of the project, are going to be trained in the planning and organization of outdoor teaching and learning activities. In the end, both host and visitor teachers and learners are going to take part in an actual outdoor activity that will be act as a workshop for and will be organized by the team of guest and host teachers.
To be more precise, any outdoor space used for student exploration, inquiry and learning is an outdoor classroom. Some schools make gardens the focal point of their outdoor education programs, while others focus on recycling and composting. Wildlife habitats such as woods, ponds, beaches, forests, creeks, and clearings are popular settings for nature studies, Science investigations, Geography projects, measurement activities, journal writing, art inspiration and, in our case, photography. All participant teachers are going to be introduced to the steps of organizing an outdoor activity:
*Getting administative permission (procedures and obligatory paperwork) *Assemble a team of students, teachers, administrators, parents, and volunteers who can help with the project. Invite members and teams with local agencies and organizations who can provide resources and expertise, depending on the topic of the activity.
*Assessment of the site. This is going to help everyone map their school site, inventory the plants and animals, and assess ways the school grounds can be used for outdoor learning. As they select a site for the outdoor classroom, they will be trained to consider one that includes shady areas for classroom space and sunny areas for native plants to attract birds and butterflies. In addition, all participants will learn to assess sites outside the school territory.
*Engage volunteers, as they can really make a difference. Teachers will be trained on ways to reach out to parents and community members to find volunteers who can assist with the outdoor classroom plan.
To practice what they have learnt, guest teachers will be assigned the organization of an outdoor activity that will take place with the participation of the guest and host learners. The learners will be taken to the selected site and take pictures of their land art production. This way, they will be able to work individually, or in groups, to bring forward a detail of their surrounding environment or point out the impact of humans on the environment. This activity will be integrated as a curricular environmental activity.
