INTERSCHOOL ART CONTEST

  • ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:

    JANUARY 2020

    ID: P28

This is primarily a dissemination activity, targeted at the pupils and teachers of other schools. Each of our six schools organises a children’s art competition on the topic of children reimagining their cultural heritage. Details about the topic and regulations are disseminated regionally or nationally in each country. School parents and local organisations are contacted to sponsor prizes. To make participation more appealing, our pupils can get involved in creating a video publicising the event to their peers in other schools. An awards ceremony for the competition’s winners is incorporated in the FESTIVAL OF MULTICULTURALISM (P19). All artwork submitted to the competition is subsequently used for the project’s dissemination.

    CYPRUS

Cyprus held the art contest in teh autumn of 2020, in a difficult period when schools faced closures and lockdowns due to the Covid pandemic. Nevertheless, we were absolutely delighted with the response we got and the role of teh contest in disseminating our project. It is worth mentioning oen particular school that used the contest as an opportunity to explore traditional Cypriot legends about dragons and include cultural heritage as part of its curriculum!

The contest was open to all schools from the wider Nicosia region. Participants could choose to reinterpret and reimagine any aspect of cultural heritage that they wished.

Submitted artworks were evaluated by a panel of judges from our school and the Ministry of Education and Culture. Awards for the top three submissions included a scholsrship for art lessons at the GC Institute.
