ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION:
JANUARY 2020
ID: P14
PARALLEL STAGE: This is a three-month activity. In the parallel stage, the participating pupils research their country’s or region’s folktales. Teachers incorporate elements of the activity in language and/or history lessons, focusing on legends and oral traditions, narrative structure, tropes, stock characters, etc. Pupils make connections between their learning and the non-tangible elements of cultural heritage. With the assistance ICT, Art, and English teachers, pupils write and illustrate their own digital folktales that combine both traditional and modern elements from their school lives.
INTERACTION STAGE: Folktales are shared between partners and presented in videoconferences. Pupils locate how the same trope or character takes on different shapes in each culture.
FOLLOW-UP: The updated folktales are disseminated both locally and online. At C5, pupils collaborate in creating a European tale that combines tropes and characters from different traditions.
CYRPUS
After exploring the themes and tropes of traditional folktales, students from Cyrpus created and illustrated their own traditional fairytale, set in Cypriot dialect and re-worked as a short video!
