Medicins Sans Frontieres  is an international, independent, medical, humanistic organization providing medical help to people without health care, victims of violence, natural disasters or armed conflicts. It acts based only on medical needs, regardless of racial, religious or political criteria so as to relieve human pain and sensitize the public opinion against the human crisis that  are wrecking the planet.

More than 5.7 million people all over the world are supporting the work of Medicins Sans Frontieres, thus ensuring the independence and flexibility of the organization.

Every day more than 30.000 doctors, nurses, technicians, administrators and other professionals are working with Medicins Sans Frontieres in more than 60 countries all over the world

We are living in times that a man is considered successful when he is rich (even at the expense of his fellow people), when he can constantly consume (so he can have a fake sense of happiness), when he has power (so his own interest is before justice and law), when he owns and processes…

Against this model of “successful people" , on Wednesday 20/2/2019 we met   Mr. Thanassis Spiratos, invited at our school as a representative of the international organization of  Medicines Sans Frontieres. He is a successful engineer with a long career in the private sector, who followed his childhood idol, Albert Schweitzer, whom he got to know through a book, gift from his aunt when he was a boy. So he left behind his quiet, retired life in order to participate in the missions of Medicins Sans Frontieres. His target is to offer help to people all over the world, who are in need because of natural disasters, famine, plague, wars, most of the times putting his life at risk and under terribly harsh conditions.

All these that he told us about, made us wonder. What does he gain from all this? He said at some point: “You give one and you get back a hundred…” This offering to others, free-willed and with no exchanges, with respect to the special features of their society, seems to be the power that knocks down the walls keeping people apart. So the soul fills with joy and happiness...

We asked our students to imagine that they have found themselves shipwrecked and abandoned on a deserted island and they came to the following decisions for their ideal imaginary society:

One thousand hands, one thousand voices... all joined in the global effort for peace and personal freedom

Our students liberating pigeons of freedom over the sea of discrimination… Our workshop seems like a raft to salvation.
