  • While visiting Bulgaria the participants will focus on the right to an adequate standard of living, the right to social security, the right to education and people’s rights and duties. Students will try to find answers to questions like these: Why are these rights so important? Is there a connection between them? Is it possible to have an adequate standard of living without the rights to social security and education? Where and why is the right to education not respected? What are the basic rights and duties of every person in a democratic society? The visit will start with icebreaking activities which will help the participants to get to know each other. Then Bulgarian participants will show their power point presentations related to the right to education and where this right is violated. In groups the participants will talk about the importance of this right and how it is respected in their countries. The students will discuss if there are children in their countries who are prevented from going to school and why. The participants will trace the relationship between the right to an adequate standard of living and the rights to education and social security. The participants will visit special  home-type houses for children without parental care and learn on the spot how the children’s rights to education, social security and basic living conditions are protected there. The students will visit the city of VelikoTarnovo which was proclaimed the capital of Bulgaria after the liberation from the Ottoman rule. There the first Bulgarian constitution was adopted by a Grand National Assembly which was summoned there for the first time. The participants will visit a museum dedicated to these historic events and will learn about the role of constitution in guaranteeing basic human rights.The participants will visit the Bulgarian capital and have a meeting with the Ombudsman of the Republic. They will learn about the role of this institution in representing the interests of people and protecting their rights. They will take part in free discussions led by teachers debating on rights and duties. Students’ attention will be focused on the importance of not only respecting rights but fulfilling duties as well.The participants will also visit the Pleven Epopee Panorama and will learn about Bulgarian fights for freedom. Before, during and after the LTT the students will write essays, prepare power point presentations, make video clips, posters, take pictures, do researches on the main topics and collect materials for a booklet about all activities of the project. Traditionally a newsletter will be prepared, this time by students from Sweden. The main items the students will work on (human rights, constitution, parliament, Ombudsman) are closely related to social studies which is part of the school curriculum.
