    ABOUT OUR CITY

    EL CABO DE LA HUERTA: Have this name thanks to the proximity of the Alicante Orchard.

    The Alicante orchard together Alicante port was be the most important economic engines in the region

    El Cabo divide the San Juan beach and the bay of the Alicante.

    ORCHARD TOWERS: The origin and his history is amazing.Over the centuries XVI and XVII was a lot of this towers in Alicante.

    The use of this towers was for the security of the workers and bosses because Alicante was all time attacked by pirates.Nowadays remains twenty towers.

    STANBROOK: During the Spanish Civil War in 1939, Alicante was one of the last cities to be conquered, for this reason it had many Republican soldiers and their families went to the port in an attempt to escape but the port of Alicante was blocked by the general's army Franco, On March 28, 1939 the English ship Stanbrook was anchored in the port of Alicante waiting to load oranges and saffron. The captain of the ship, Welshman Archibald Dickson, when he saw the thousands of refugees in the port, challenged the order he had received not to evacuate civilians and welcomed all those who fit on board, saving thousands of lives.

         

    ALICANTE'S SHELTERS: In this picture, we can see some Alicante shelters that were created in the Spanish Civil War. The purpose was to protect the population of Alicante, the bombardment of German and Italian aircraft.

    LA CARA DEL MORO: The mountain that is under the castle of Santa Barbara is recognized as "The face of the Moor". This name must have a profile  shape, and it must to the legends of Alicante.
