GERMANY
Right now - as of 27th Sept. 2016 - we have two separate groups working on "MIRRORS".
The first group is composed of those students who already participated in last year's etwinning project "Treasure Hunt". They are preparing a powerpoint presentation to show you our school and the city of Geldern. We hope to come up with results soon.
The second group is class 6b which is composed of 24 children. Mrs Kirtz is one of their two form teachers.
Many children were not born in Germany and they often speak at least two languages, their mother tongue and German. We have children from 10 different countries in our class and we still don't know too much about each other. We therefore started learning from each other how to say "Guten Tag" in all the different languages. Some languages are really difficult!!!!
We are all looking forward to learning more about ourselves and about our classmates!!! We enjoy learning from each other!
Working with language

ITALY
September 2016, Working on Culture
Related lesson plan
The teacher introduced the Project in the mother tongue (Italian) and promote discussion about the Project title/acronym and the 'motto' that was somehow taken as a trigger for further discussion,
What is culture made of?
The activity was first documented using Tackk, but this app finally closed up and the materials produced could only be saved as PDF. It was really a pity, as the PDF needs to be downloaded to be seen while Tackks were immediatly visible. We'll see if it's possible to use some other app likely to be directly embedded in the page.
Ok, the following 'book' is a fist attempt. to recover what we lost with Tackk's crashing down :)
- at the beginning the students had difficulties to work on their own - they were always asking for the teacher's support, help, confirmation before writing down anything.
- Religion came out only in the end: it doesn't seem to represent an outstanding feature of culture for these guys
- on the contrary, Internet was one of the first ;) And they might actually be right, if we consider culture on a global level.
- some interesting 'intersections were foound out: religion/art, traditions/religion/love, human relationships/ religion/habits and so on.
- ometimes the first issues to come out were SPORT ( in fact, in was FOOTBALL) and FOOD. No Internet, but they all agree on TV Programmes.
Most of their suggestions tended to start from the detail/ the particular, rather than refer to a general category: Bible fo Religion, stories for Literature, Songs for Music, physical featurer for ethnic group etc. Curious additions: JOBS, and MEDICINES.
Common misunderstanding, in mostt classes: a good number of students initially think of Culture just in terms of study, level of instruction, knowledge acquired formally.
2^A and 2^B
chose to carry out the activity using Padlet and added images, drawings and videos.
Then the students were asked to choose from the general map they built together those aspects, elements of Culture which they considered most significant for them. Thus they create a Personal Cultural identity card. We collected them on different Padlets, one for each class. In a second moment some of them completed the work by giving reasons for their choices.
A student of this class (Anna Favaro) also prepared a PPT to try to illustrate her choices
Working on emotions, feelings, moods
Class 1^C
The final step of the activity was the creation of a KAHOOT Quiz, using the photos taken during the first steps. The whole class participated to the activity.
The Kahoot can't be embedded because it has been made on the private/secret mode (we could not make it public with the students' photos). We'll see if we can make it again using drawings instead of photos. Partners will be allowed to access through a link.
KINDERGARTEN PUPILS, YELLOW CLASS: FRIENDSHIP!
Our little pupils of the kindergarten worked on FRIENDSHIP, creating a wonderful friends' spiderweb which shows out how much we are all linked one another.
The realted lesson plan is presently available only in Italian, but it will be soon translated in English too.
Working with art: Ethnic patterns
1^A
The class worked with their teacher of Art, Valentina Vianelli
CYPRUS
What is Culture? What are its components? We are we called Cypriots? How are we different from other people? These were some of the questions investigated and answered by our students regarding Culture. So after mapping our ideas we came up to a map with our students thoughts of what constitutes culture. Really interesting point of views!
