Visit to a marine ecosystem on a beach near Vigo of the Spanish students. October 2018
On Tuesday, October 23, we went to a rocky beach at low tide of almost 1 meter depth. At this moment a great variety of algae and animals are revealed for 6 hours.
We began by observing the area near to the sea, looking for: hedgehogs, stars, brittle stars, small fish, mussels ,etc.
We also found sea anemones, actinias (from the same group as jellyfish)
hermit crabs.
And a wide variety of green, brown and red algae.
This is a characteristic rock of this beach
It is metamorphic.
But between the rocks and in the sand we found remains of all kinds such as : plastic bottles, bottle tops, pieces of containers, plastic bags, remains of boxes.
We picked them up to classify in technology class.
When studying the vegetation of the dunes we also found invasive vegetation, not typical of Galicia.
But in general the beach and surroundings are quite clean
