Slovenian students have decided to teach their peers a simple folk song titled 'Moja mati kuha kafe', which translates into 'My mother is making coffee'.

Here's how it starts:

ma samo da je.

They dressed up as locals used to do in the past and shot a video in a typical Brda house.

Here's what the song is about:

The direct translation of “moja mati kuha kafe” is my mother is making coffee. This is an old folk song, so it has many variants, but they all have the same    meaning. They all represent life in the past-poverty. Back then they didn't have coffee so they made it out of something similar to coffee-”cikorja”. It's used to make what we call white coffee. When they didn't  have even “cikorja” the song says they made coffee from ashes. And when they didn't have ashes they used “fondč”-the remains of grinded coffee beans. The last verse of the song is about poverty (and the fact that it could be even worse).
