P5: Disabilities in sports

  • SPORTS TOGETHER

On June 20, 2019, a team from our special needs school visited the first graders at the NMS Haiming to do some sports lessons together. Though all of the kids were handicapped, especially with mental disorders, we found exercises and games to play together. All of the participants had great fun and were happy about the possibility of just playing together without looking at disabilities or disadvantages.

During the second mobility to Italy from May 6th till 10th, 2019 all the Erasmus+ students could experience personally that sport is important and helps to feel fit. Sport is for everybody, also for disabled people. Our students could meet a special person, Mauro Bernadi, who had a terrible car accident and now live in a wheelchair.

Mauro organized for our Erasmus+ students a Baskin competition where our students could experience different disabilities. Italian, Estonia, Spanish, and Austrian students played together mixed in different teams and spent a beautiful morning.

"Baskin" is like playing Basket but some players have a disability.

Someone is blind and needs a friend who helps to find the right way to the basket.

    Someone can't use his legs.

    Someone can't use an arm.

Everybody has to reach the basket to get some points for his/her Team.

It was a very involving experience. Mauro told us his story and shared with us his will to live despite the misfortune and the disability.

Mauro gave us a small present: a keychain. On it, you can see the Logo of our Erasmus+ Project and the sentence "AGGANCIATI ALLA VITA!" (Get hooked on Life!). That means everybody should choose always the good things in life like friendship and love and not bad things like alcohol or drugs and criminality.

Thanks Mauro, we lernt a lot from you.

One day before Valentine´s Day Erasmus+ team of Ridala Primary School hosted students from Viigi School. There were sports activities at Ridala Sports Hall. Viigi School is a small school in Haapsalu for disabled students.

It was a great day. Our students learned different possibilities for how to be active in the sport. Also made new friends from Viigi School.
