The Municipal Apollon Theater of Patras

The building of the municipal theater Apollon was erected in 1872 based on plans by the German architect Ernst Ziller. The building is characteristic of the 19th century neoclassical style. It was built as a theatre and it is located in the central square of the city of Patras. The theatre is a micrograph of the La Scala in Milan and is the oldest existing indoor theatre of the same era. The Apollon Theater was founded on 11 February 1871 and its construction was completed on October 10, 1872.   The project was funded by the society of Patras. The Apollon Theatre has been the main stage of the Patras Municipal and Regional Theater since 1988, and can hold up to 300 people.
