The Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Ratio

  • In our classroom we watched the TED clip in which professor Benjamin inspired the students with his talk regarding the Fibonacci sequence. Beforehand we already watched the video "Nature by Numbers" at the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkGeOWYOFoA, introducing the students to the mysteries of the golden ratio and his link to the Natural shapes.

Then every student generated the Fibonacci sequence using a Google Sheets. Every students used their own device. They easily calculated the ratio between two consecutive numbers of the sequence, noticing how fast this ratio approached the golden number "Phi". We studied how Phi showed up, integrating all those classes in the curriculum.

Finally, after discussing collectively how to realize a graph illustrating the Mathematical results, they created the graph.
