Day 1&2 (Sunday & Monday, Sept,29-Sept,30) by Kuba

It was our first day on the erasmus project, "The big trip". Our connection to Brno wasn't so easy as we thought at first, we were made to show up at the Gdansk airport at 4am. Personally it wasn’t such a big deal for me, as I live close to it but we also had 2 students living 2 hours away. We cheeked in smoothly and waited for our journey to continue. It was a connecting flight to Vienna via Warsaw. We did not encounter any difficulty except waiting for at least 5 hours in Warsaw's airport for our departure. Quickly after our arrival at Vienna our whole Erasmus Project team met for the first time. Almost everyone stayed in their nationality team, but somehow the first relationships were made. After spending another 2 hours in a bus, finally we reached our destination. Our host families were already waiting for us. It was a late evening of an exhausting day so all went to bed very quickly.

The next day, we all met in a school canteen. We were all selected into teams, in a way not to double a nationality in it, so the integration process was stronger. From the very beginning we played games, the first one was a bingo style mini game. It’s purpose was to find students which suit to the description. Next was to draw 5 things we had in common in our teams. After that, Czech students showed us around the school. We had our lunch in school and went back home to rest after the whole day flying.

Day 3 (Tuesday, Oct,1) by Maja

On  Tuesday 1.10.2019 we started the day at 9 o’clock in the Centre for foreigners JMK. I was late there but I was rested. The Centre for foreigners JMK is a place where you can learn the Czech language for free. If you are a foreigner and you need some help with paperwork, they will give you a hand. The Czech language teacher showed us a typical Czech language lesson. She did not say anything in English. She spoke in Czech but  only simple things like “Good morning” and ‘’how are you?”. The visit to that centre was very interesting for me. When I had arrived in Poland, I went to the counterpart of JMK. After JMK, we went to the centre of Brno. We played an orienteering game there. We had a map and a  piece of paper where were written questions about monuments in Brno. We had to find every single monument and answered questions. We had lunch at school at 12.45 and  13 o’clock we spoke about volunteering in our country. I said about the polish foundation, which supports disabled people and children in my country. We finished school day in the group work. In the afternoon we went to the city centre named Olimpia. After shopping and eating in Olimpia I came back to my host’s town, which is called Ujezd u Brna. In the evening  I and my host took his dog for a walk. The dog was adorable. About 22 o’clock I went to bed.

Day 4 (Wednesday, Oct,2) by Malwina

The day started at 8.30 a.m. with creative work in our colour teams - to make a presentation about our own imagined NGO that we would like to have. We had to plan who we want to help and in what, the title, the logo, necessary facilities and a sum of money that we need from sponsors. At Friday we finished this project. After 2,5 hour of work we competed as teams in game "Do we know each other", answering the questions about customs or laws in each of the participating countries. The fight in the final between the blue and yellow team was fierce, however the yellows finally won. We had a break for lunch in school and then we went on trip to Mohyla Miru where we visited museum dedicated to the Battle of Austerlitz. There were a lot of surprising special effects. On the way back we stopped for a while in Žuráň - small hill where in 2 December 1805 Napoleon Bonaparte led the Battle of Austerlitz from its peak. When we came back to Brno we had about 2 hours spare-time before bowling planned for the evening. Then we played from 6.00 p.m. to 9 p.m.! It was a lot of time but it passed quickly. We had a dinner there too. It was definitely the longest day of whole week in Czechia.

Day 5 (Thursday, Oct,3) by Klaudia

On Thursday we had to get up very early like every day. I was living far away from school so I had to get up at 5 a.m. It was a day of sightseeing so we went to school at the morning and had meeting at 8 a.m. Firstly Czech students made a quiz about countries which take part in Erasmus Project. It was quite amusing because most of us didn’t know some simple facts about their countries. Later we had a lunch. Food at the canteen was quite tasty.

Then we had meeting in front of the school. We were supposed to visit the palace in Lednice. It used to be an aristocratic residence in 13th century. The castle is placed near the border with Austria. We went there by bus. It was such a beautiful place. I took a lot of photos (and there are three of them below the description of this day). We had also free time to walk in the garden behind the palace. After visiting the castle we went on to the Mikulov where we played a game in our teams and ate dinner.

Last of all we went back to school and then after end of our programme we met with our new friends at the city of Brno. We were talking and made even more friends. It was one of the most interesting, educational and integrational day.

Day 6&7 (Friday & Saturday, Oct,4-Oct,5) by Patryk

Friday - last day of group activities and certificate-giving day. It all started with finishing our group project, where we had to came up with a non governmental organization. My group had to record a short movie, where we talked about our organization - Open Borders Foundation. After that all groups have presented their ideas and it was time for lunch. We ate at the school cafeteria. Food was OK. The last thing that we did at school was certificate ceremony, which was basically
receiving certificates concerning us taking part in Erasmus project.
Last thing that we did as the official Erasmus group was visiting the Gypsy culture museum. Everything looked cool, but I was so tired and the guide talked so boring, that everything that I could think of was looking for a chair. After that we were free. I wasn’t really happy about it because it was around 3 P.M. and I had no plans with my host, that didn’t really spoke English.Luckily we found some people to meet later. That day finished with hanging out with Czech and Greek people and saying goodbye to them.
Next day, the last few hours that I was going to spend in Czech Republic. I woke up with a thought, that now I only have to live through the next four hours and then finally the trip back home will begin. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the week in Czech, but I got a bit homesick, and as pathetic as it sounds, just wanted to see my dog and mom again. My host’s mother prepared really good goodbye-dinner - cauliflower wings, some Czech soup and a cake. Then it was time to go for a bus to the airport. I said goodbye to my host and his family and finally was on the way to Vienna. Funny thing was, that the bus, that was suppose to take us to the airport was too small, so two people had to go by car, and we barely fitted al the luggage in the bus. We were at the airport at 3.30P.M. and our flight to Warsaw at 7.30P.M. so we had a lot of time. It was to early for check-in, so we had two hours at the main airport. We spend most of that time at McDonald’s, where I had really good veggie-burger. I was really disappointed at the Vienna airport, because after checking-in there wasn’t even Starbucks or other popular coffee shop that I would feel comfortable to order in. Because it was Austria we bought some pretzels and I bought coffee that was too small and not tasty. Finally the boarding started and we flied to Poland. In Warsaw I think that everyone had a good time, because we started talking about literally everything and laugh about it. We had 20 minutes to boarding so I quickly bought coffee (this time costa coffee so everything was great) and finally (FINALLY) after the whole day of travel we went to Gdansk to after the whole week of interesting experiences go back home.

    FIRST DIARY ENTRY

    Monday

I had to wake up early in the morning and our journey to school was like two hours!

We went by two busses and a tram. It was my first tram ride ever and it was so awfull! When we finally got to school there was some weird gate thing att the door that looked like

some security check or something. First we had opening ceremony with some

speeches and music and then we had some getting to know each other-games. We were also divided into five different groups: red, blue, white, yellow and green witch was my group. Then the checz students showed us

around the school in those groups. The school was so much bigger than ours and

so different too. After the tour we had our first lunch in the checz school.

After lunch we went to visit the Charity Brno and seeing how difficult life some people had I learned to appriciate mine.

Then we had a guided tour around Brno and it was interesting but we had to walk so much that my feet were in pain.

    Tuesday

On Tuesday our day begun with a visit to the centre for foreigners. It was quite interesting and we learned some easy chezc words

like “smutek” which meant sad if I remember correcly. After that we had some

game around Brno and I mostly talked to my friend from my group and we had so much fun. We tried to learn each others

language and talked about everything. Next we went back to school and had lunch and the presentations about

volunteering in our countries. Then we had some group work and after that

we had free time. If I remember correcly we went to a mall. I hung with the girls from the finnish team and bonded with them a little.

    Wednesday

Our morning started with our group work: we had to create our own NGO and make a presentation of it. Like what facilities and supplies we need for it and how much money we need from the sponsors. Ours was the hopefull center. It was really funny to come up with an idea and to just talk to the people

in my group. I became friends with some of them and I truly hope that we will be friends for life. After the group work we took a bus to Mohyla Míru that was

some monument of some war. There we listened to some guide and watched some videos in many different rooms.

In the evening we went bowling and there was some catering for us. Eventough that night wasn’t the best it could have I had alot of fun. I sat with the french students that I had gotten to know.

    Thursday

On Thursday we made a trip to city named Mikulov and we went to visit this really beautiful Lednice castle. The castle was interesting but to be honest I was more interested in the cat we found wondering outside! After the visit att the castle we had some group activity around the city in our coloured teams. It was really cold that day and we weren’t really into the game but it was okay. We had to find places and solve clues to get a name of some animal. I had made many friends in my group so it was kind of fun in the end. After the game we

went to some restaurant to get something to eat. I tried the fried cheese and it was so good! I think that from that day that moment was my favourit.

As we ate me and my new friend from French talked alot and tried to understand what

our hosts were talking in their language.

    Friday

In the morning we finished our group works and then we had the certificate ceremony. Then we went to the Gypsy culture museum. The only thing I remember from that was a room that had class walls and it was like there was a mirror everywhere. After that we met with our

hosts and me, my host, my two french friends and their hosts left with

a tram to go to some dam on a lake. We were supposed to go on a boat but our hosts hadn’t checked if we could go on a boat so then we just hung around the lake in some park. It was fun though, I met my host’s friends and I tougtht them some finnish and they thought us some chezch. We went to eat and I had the fried cheese again because it was so good and we don’t have that in Finland. After that I said good byes to my French friends and we headed home.

    Saturday

On Saturday me, my host and his sister went to some big mall or something to buy me souveniers for my family and friends in Finland. After that we went to Mc cafe and had some cake and hot chololate witch was so huge! In Finland everything is so much smaller than in Checz. Then we my host’s sister showed me her school witch was also huge it had like so many buildings!

The streets around her university were covered with graffitis of the people

who have graduated from the school and they were so amazing.

Then we went to the meeting place and I hugged them good bye and left for the Vienna airport. There we said

our good byes with the other teams and went to find something to eat.

    TRAVEL DIARY 2

    Day 1 Sunday

The day when our journey began. We had to leave really early in the

morning to the Helsinki Airport. It  was not a problem with good company. Everyone was really excited

    about the trip ahead.

Our flight departed at 8 am in the morning towards Vienna. The flight took a few hours and it went fast while sleeping. From Vienna Airport we took the train to the city center. We walked and went sightseeing. We visited, for example, the Danube. We also went to eat with a group of

Finns in the restaurant and then returned to the airport.

At the airport we met other students from the Erasmus + project. We took the shared bus to Brno. The bus trip took about two hours, after that we met our host family.

Everyone went to their new homes.

My host family really welcomed me. We had a dinner together where I got to know the family. I was really tired of traveling, so I went to bed early.

    Day 2 Monday

the first whole day started early in the morning. I ate breakfast at home with my host. We lived pretty close to school. We took the tram for about 10 minutes.

At school we were divided into new groups. I was in a white group. The groups consisted of members from all different project countries.

It was exciting to meet new people in English. We had introductory games and other nice activities.

In the afternoon we went to town to see the sights. The day was long and we were really hungry. When the program was over we went to the mall to eat and shop. We returned to our homes after a long day. We went straight to bed.

    Day 3 Tuesday

On Tuesday we went to The Centre for Foreigners. It’s a place where you can learn the Czech language for free.

After this we hade a game in the centre of Brno. During this game we got to see many things that are an important part of Brno.

At school we had presentations about volunteering in our own countries.

We talked about different ways you can volunteer in Finland.

After school we went to a shopping centre called Olympia with our hosts. We stayed there for a few hours and then we left. It was a long day so when we got home, we just went straight to bed.

On Thursday we went to Castle of Lednice. We have to meet at school at 8 a.m. We went to the castle by bus. Everyone was little bit tired during

the bus trip, because we had to wake up every morning very early.

The castle was really nice and we had really good guide.

She told us really interesting things about the castle.

After that we had little bit time to walk around in the garden. It was really beautiful. Then we had some city orienteering in Mikulov. After that we went to eat.

When we arrived back to Brno, we went to Starbucks.

We celebrated Aada`s birthday. In the evening we spent time with friends and then we had dinner at our home. Food was really good. I went to bed early,

because it was a long day and I was tired.
