My grandpa Tadeusz, father of my dad, was born in South of Poland, near Częstochowa. He had been living there until he was 18. He decided with two of his friends to move out and go somewhere else. The reason for their decision was a threat of being taken as a soldier to Polish army. At that time an uprising of antycomunists took place in Czechoslovakia and he didn't want to shoot to innocent people. They heard that in Gdynia there were places to work in shipyard and they thought that might have been a good place for them. After some time in Gdynia he met my grandma and fell in love. They got married and soon after my dad was born. Now the whole family live in 3city.

    Weronika K Poland (pt.1)

My family comes from every part of Poland.
At first, on my mother side:
My grandmother- Anna- was born in 1932 in a village in southern Poland- Czarna. Her family was quite big- 3 sisters (one older sister and two younger) and younger brother. Because of WW2, she couldn’t get knowledge in her village, so when she was 14 years old, she arrived to Gdańsk. She was living in her aunt’s house and was a student of one of schools in this city. Later she became a telegraphist (something like sending text messages by radio waves).
When she was a little older, she met my grandfather- Brunon- while waiting for a train on the railway stadion Gdynia Główna. He was born in Wejherowo in 1930 in a city close to Gdynia, about 22 kilometres- Wejherowo.

    Weronika K Poland (pt.2)

After they ‘d got marriage they decided to stay in Gdynia because of my grandpa’s work and also they found an acommodation here, what was really difficult in these times. When my grandma was 38 my mum- Dorota- was born. They used to visit family in Czarna every holidays, but Gdynia was their home…
And my father side: His mum- Krystyna, was born in 1942 in Gdynia and she has two brothers. Her mother was from Zblewo and his father was coming from Czarna Woda. These two places lays on Kociewie. My grandma’s mother –Helena- was my great-grandfather- Bronisław- second wife, because his first and their two daugters died during the WW2 in the shelter, when the bomb exploded.

    Weronika K Poland (pt.3)

My grandfather’s family comes from Kujawsko Pomorskie (in this land lays Toruń and Bydgoszcz). His mother- Marianna- was born in Nowy Dwór and his father- Leon- was from Górzno, when they were living. My grandpa has three brothers.
He came to Gdynia for work, he was a tailor. A bit later he became a soldier. One Day he came to visit his cousin, who was my grandma’s colleague. When she saw him, she fell in love (no wonder, he was in his uniform).
My grandpa was working in shipyard, my grandma too. After they got marriage, my aunt- Urszula- was born. After 5 years my dad- Piotr- came.
My parents’ ve met each other when they were seventeen and started dating when the were eighteen. They Got marriage when the were twenty five. Firstly I was born, and I have one younger brother, Szymon.

    Maja Poland

My grandma and grandfather emigrated from Mazovia to northern Poland in order to find a job. In these times many industrial centers were created. People came to Gdańsk because after the war, the Germans were displaced and there were a lot of workplaces where workers were sought. My grandfather found a job in Gdansk shipyard and my grandmother in nursery. My dad's family has always been settled in Kashubia because of they profession (fisherman) has always had a job.

    Oliwia Nowicka Poland

My dad's father, Józef, was born in Vilnius. He came to Giżycko as part of repatriation. Then he moved to Mrągowo. Dad's mom lived near Ostróda in Masuria. She moved to Mrągowo to live with my grandfather, and to start a family with him.

My mom's father, Kazimierz was born in Cartouches. He moved to Puck, in Pomerania with his parents, when he was a child. Mom's mother, Krystyna, was born in Kielce. She moved to Puck after meeting my grandfather, to start a family together.

    Weronika R Poland

    My family history:
On my father side: my great grand- father, during Warld War II, came to the Poland and married my graet grand-mother's sister. But after the childbirth their sixth children, she was very ill and dying. She begd my great grand-mother to married my great grand- father, because someone had to look after him, their childred, and house. After some time my grandfather Julian was born in village Ostaszewo. When he was adult, he came to Gdynia and met my grandmother Helena. After 50 years they still live in Gdynia like my whole family.

    MARIA SPAIN

    My family's story:
When my grandfather was young he had to emigrate to France to work there because in Spain he could not find a job. There he worked for a few years in a soft drink factory. Later, he traveled to Germany to work in an American military base. In this German base he worked in the maintenance of the heaters. Meanwhile my grandmother was in Spain taking care of her children.
In addition, all my grandfather's brothers traveled to France to work at the time of grape harvest.

    ALMUDENA SPAIN

When my uncle was 30 years old he worked in a computer company. But when he had been working for 4 years he had to go to work to Colombia. There he met a woman who is a girlfriend today and his future wife. Last year they decided to come and live in Spain since she had never come here. Last month they started working in a new company.

    Malwina Poland

I will tell about my mother's family history. First about her mother's parents. My great grandparents were neighbours. They lived in Lwów. My great grandmother - Maria - worked in railway shop and my great grandfather - Rudolf - was international train conductor, so they were seeing each other. My grandmother – Ala - was borned in Lwów in 1927. After World War II they had to move out from Lwów, so they settled down in Sopot (city between Gdańsk and Gdynia). There my grandparents met in and lived together with three daughters. One of them is my mother - Dorota. She is talented artistically like her mother. She met my father - Jerzy - in Gdańsk, where he studied. He comes from Brodnica. He is programmer. They lived together in Gdańsk about 10 years. Two years before my birth they moved to Gdynia where we live until now.

    Malwina Poland (part 2)

Now about the parents of my mother's father. My great grandfather - Julian - was born in Warsaw and he was a policeman. My great grandmother – Czesia - was born in southern Poland and she ran haberdashery. They met probably during the defense of Lwów (Battle of Lemberg 1918-1919). There they slept in a warehouse with beds separated by curtains, where they all slept together. There you had to share everything with everyone, the service, the kitchen ... There was no labadora, when they returned from work they had to wash their clothes by hand.
    They worked day and night.

On the other hand, my uncle, whose name is Juan Ramón, is currently working in Norway, since his work does not have much demand in Spain, he is dedicated to making tunnels.

    Maricarmen SPAIN

My family has not had a long history of emigrating. My grandparents emigrated to France when they were young to look for work. Spain fell under a great crisis and they had to find a way to earn money to feed their 5 children. They were responsible for collecting the grapes and in some cases the apples. Years later my parents traveled with them, in search of work. There were years when, instead of going to France, they decided to go to Barcelona. There they spent a few years and where one of my uncles was born. After a while, my grandparents returned to my city, but my uncle stayed there, where he had to learn to live without his family around him and find a job to survive. The majority of Spanish emigrants, is due to the economic crises suffered in Spain.

    Berenika Poland

My family has been living in the same place for many years. My great grandparents were born near the town where I live now. Next generations after them haven't moved to another part of a country so we all are near each other. Moreover, I even live in a house that my grandfather has built. Also my extended family has been living here for years, but we don't have good contact with them so I can't tell for sure.

    Filip Poland pt.1

The fact that I live in Gdynia, is a completely coincidence. My grandparents from both sides were born in the area of Bory Tucholskie. Now I’m living in Gdynia, of which I’m really proud, because Gdynia is the best city in the world :). My maternal grandfather was born in a small village in Poland, but at the beginning of World War II he was forced to go to work to Norway. Then he was moved to France and finally he went to Scotland, where he stayed for few years. After war he come back to Gdynia, where he had a job. His cousin told him, that he knew one pretty lady, he could marry. This woman was my grandmother :). She came to Gdynia to meet him, and after few months they got married. My paternal grandparents got married in their native city - Tuchola.

I don’t know how exacly they met, but they did and they moved to Jabłonowo – a village that is located close to Nowe Miasto Lubawskie. Firstly, my great grandfather worked in sawmill and then he joined the army and he was taken captive for about 5 years and my great grandmother was alone with 7 children and with one child on the way. Somehow, he got to Norway and he came back home.

    Magda Poland (pt. 2)

Then my grandmother was born and when she was few weeks old my great grandfather got a job and an apartment in sawmill in Susz and they moved there. They were traveling by a train for 3 days but it was only about 50 kilometers away! And this is the place where my family lives till today. Unfortunately, I don’t know the history of my dad’s family getting here.

My family roots are primarily focused in the near area of Finland. My mum was born in the town of Rauma which is found in South-Eastern Finland, but neither of her parents' family is mostly from all over Ostrobothnia, with probable roots to Sweden. My father's side is a little wider spread. His father's father came from Karelia to Finland after Finland gain independence. His wife, my great grandmother originates from Hämeenkoski, which is close to Lahti, where he was born in. I most likely have some Russian blood amongst my Karelian roots. My father's mother has the most researched line. Most of her family come from Ostrobothnia, and from there I'm related to a "famous" Finnish clockmaker family, Könni, a 16th-century Finnish landowner and revolutionary Jaakko-Ilkka and a family of Hällström that originated from Denmark. It's likely that I also have ancestors from Central Europe who came to Denmark.

My ethnicity is kinda complicated and weird. My ethnicity is mix of Finnish, Northern African, Western African and Scandinavian.
Even tho I’m Finnish and from my grandpas side I’m Swedish, I still cannot speak Swedish that well or fluent Finnish.
Mostly my ancestors are from Falun, Vyborg, Seinäjoki, Mäntsälä, Vasa, Nigeria etc.
My closest family members lives in Finland, except my Uncle and his family lives in Argentina.
I still don’t consider myself as a Finn at all. I have been traveling my hole childhood, so from the young age I have started to combine culture from each country that I have visited. One of the closest counties has always been Greece, because I have visited there so many times when I was growing up. There for I’m open for everything and I don’t like to locker myself in to boxes.
