10) Maths - fourth common topic

  • WORD OR TWO ABOUT MATHEMATICS

What is Mathematics? Is it a science, a school subject, trouble for most of pupils or miraculous land of adventure for some of them, or…?

Without Math, life would be difficult: we would not be able to weigh or measure anything; it would be impossible to pay in different currencies or to solve any challenging problem – including performing space flights.

Earlier the children realize that it is hard (impossible, even!) to do anything without Math, fewer will be the problems they will have with it – and vice versa. If they accept Math in early age as a challenge, they will handle it easily and upgrade their mathematical knowledge level. If they learn how to solve math crossword puzzles, Sudoku and so on, they will not even feel that they have made extra effort, but they will certainly enrich their spirit.

When we discover the beauty of fractions and decimal numbers, we are opening ourselves to architecture, medicine and space exploration – depending on how much we want to delve into the sea of numbers.

If we understand Mathematics as a game, we will quickly and easily learn its content and enrich our mind, and if we resist, then the problem increases and it seems to us that the burden becomes unbearable.

And in the end – a question for you: How many children must one at least have so that each of the children has a brother and a sister?

If you think the answer is three, you are not really a genuine mathematician. If the answer is four, there is hope for you to improve your relationship with Math.
