6. Clean Water and Sanitation

  • You can know more about this goal here

  • What are the main facts related to this goal? You can also add your opinion about it.

    Why this goal?

Millions of people die every year from diseases related with inadequate water supply and hygiene. Almost 1,000 children die per day due to preventable water and sanitation-related diarrheal diseases. Lack of water affects more than 40% of the global population. Billions of people have not access to basic sanitation services, like toilets. (Natalia S.)

    Aims of the goal 6

1-To protect and restore water-related ecosystems.
2-Achieve universal and equitable access to drinking water and basic sanitation services.
3-Improve water quality by reducing pollution and chemical wastes and recycling.
4-International collaboration in order to improve the equal access to water and sanitation. (Natalia S.)

    Other consequences

Lack of water affects other aspects too, like education, causes malnutrion... In the poorest places, women and children have to travel long distances to get some water that isn’t clean. (Natalia S.)

    Some solutions

Invest in management of freshwater ecosystems and sanitation facilities on a local level in several developing countries. Install drinking water wells near to the places were people live. Not waste water in our daily life. (Natalia S.)

    Most affected places

Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, Southern Asia, Eastern Asia and South-Eastern Asia. (Natalia S.)

    In my opinion...

In my opinion this goal is very important, like the others, but this is a basic goal I think because, if people don't have at least access to drinking water and a basic hygiene, many of these people could die or have illnesses and they won’t be able to survive. (Natalia S.)

    Clean Water and Sanitation

Billions of people still lack safe water, sanitation and handwashing facilities.
Achieving universal access to even basic sanitation service by 2030 would require doubling the current annual rate of progress. More efficient use and management of water are critical to addressing the growing demand for water, threats to water security and the increasing frequency and severity of droughts and floods resulting from climate change. As of the time of writing, most countries are unlikely to reach full implementation of integrated water resources management by 2030. (Carlos.G)

Despite progress, billions of people still lack safe water, sanitation and handwashing facilities. Data suggests that achieving universal access to even basic sanitation service by 2030 would require doubling the current annual rate of progress.
Of 172 countries, 80 per cent have medium-low implementation or better of integrated water resources management. However, 60 per cent of countries are unlikely to reach the target of full implementation by 2030.
However, every year millions of people, most of them children, die from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene. Clean water, basic toilets and good hygiene practices are essential for the survival and development of children. Today, there are around 2.4 billion people who do not use improved sanitation, and 663 million who do not have access to improved water sources.

    In my idea

In my ıdea this goal is very significent, like the others because water is source of life; which accounts for 60% of the human body, 90% of the lungs and 95% of the brain.İf there is no water,we die.(Halil Karataş,Turkey)

Social inequalities as a main factor for lack of sanitation

In some parts of the world there is little or no awareness of good hygiene practices and their role in reducing the spread of disease. However, even when people have knowledge of good hygiene behaviour, they lack the soap, safe water and washing facilities. This is unfair. (Antonio IT)
