C5 - Sweden, Atvidaberg

  • The final destination was in Sweden. The students met each other for the very last time, and gain knowledge about how well-constructed houses can save energy in themself. With their new found knowledge they worked in teams to present their final product – a flexible accommodation that is built in a sustainable way.

On the first day the Swedish team and their students greeted all the countries at the school. The mayor joined us to welcome all and a tour of the school included. We are very proud of our school since it is an old industrialized building that we have renovated to fit the standard of a high school.  During this day we had a seminar about flexible houses, to inform everyone how we save energy in the most sustainable and modern way in Sweden. The students also presented their ideas and information from each country. Together with this we did workshops and icebreakers in order to work together better.

Tuesday, April 30th was the day the students started the workshop. They worked with the CAD-program as well as the final product of landscaping a 3D-model and creating a product catalogue to fit all countries. Furthermore, we had another seminar where the sustainable development department came to inform about Agenda 2030 and taught the students how to think surrounding the sustainable development goals. By the end of the day, we had a guided tour of how we had turned our old factory to an inspiring and modern library, and the work we continue to do with rebuilding the same great old factory to a museum and a youth center.

On Wednesday, the students continued to work intensely with the workshop and in the evening we had a city tour. We showed our old city with everything from the canon that is driven by the sun, to the mansion where we were greeted and guided by the Baron Gustav Adelswärd.

Thursday took us to the neighboring city of Linkoping, the fourth biggest city in Sweden. Linkoping has worked with a project, and a new suburb called Vallastaden. All the members of the project were introduced to a guided tour of this new suburb to give more ideas for the project and workshops. The houses of Vallastaden is built environmentally with accommodations of all prices to fit everyone’s need. They have also installed a modern recycling center where the citizens recycle their trash, which then goes through an underground pipe to end up in the energy center, where it is burnt to heat the houses of the suburb. Since we would do the final product presentation on Friday we had our last farewell dinner on Thursday evening, with dinner and bowling.

The last day the students got some more time to work with their presentations and the final product. In the afternoon we invited the rest of the school, media, seminar holders, politicians and the Board of Education to present the final product. The students made good presentations where they had worked with translating the product to our different languages, as well as come up with a 3D model made in CAD that had sustainable structure, isolation, heating, watering and energy. Their motivation and choices was also presented in the final catalogue.

We are very pleased and proud with the students’ hard work and result!
