C2- Germany, Duisburg

  • Willkommen in Deutschland!

Missing or completely overpriced living space is a big problem in many countries. That is why it is important to deal with alternative residential measures and innovative architecture. This is exactly what happens in the framework of the "Erasmus +" program "FlAgShIP", in which the Friedrich-Albert-Lange-Berufskolleg participates.

In February, teachers and students of the Friedrich-Albert-Lange-Berufskolleg traveled to Tenerife as part of the "Erasmus +" project. There they worked together with four partner schools from Hungary, France, Sweden and Spain on the EU-funded "FLAagShIP" project. Now, representatives from the other schools visited Duisburg for a week to work on the development of sustainable, alternative and future-proof living concepts.
The preparation team around Marie Moll-Gajdics had put together an exciting program for its guests.

On the first day the team welcomed it's guests with a speech of the headmaster Egbert Meiritz. After that the German students organized a small tour through the school building. Furthermore the students had to present their works, on which they had been working as a preparation for this meeting. All countries presented their analysis of regional materials. At the end of the day the students and teachers participated on a guided tour through Duisburg, which focused on the history but as well as on the industrial architecture, that is really typical for this region.

After the first day the teams started to work on their group works. Together they drove to Cologne to listen to an architect's talk on "flexible living solutions". In addition, they visited the "Ecological Building Materials Center Duisburg", where the students and teachers learned about ecological building methods and building materials and could try a lot.

Of course, the international group, worked on their joint project. The results of the second "Erasmus +" meeting were presented on the last day of the FAL vocational college. Four groups of students from each participating school presented their PowerPoint presentations in English. Thematically it was about sustainable materials, physical, architectural and economic aspects. In the wood workshop some of the youngsters had even built a model of a sustainable wall construction under the guidance of the workshop teacher Christopher Steenken.

At the end of their presentations, the students emphasized again and again how well they enjoyed their stay in Duisburg. The EU-funded "Erasmus +" program is a meaningful and extremely exciting project in which both teachers and students can learn a lot from each other, not just professionally but also culturally. Everyone is looking forward to the third meeting - it will take place in November 2018 in Hungary.

After some stressful days the students also got together in the evenings to have some free time together and enjoy some conversations about a common dinner :)
