The visit to Romania took place between 15th and 19th October, 2018. There were 12 teachers from all partner countries and 8 pupils from the Netherlands and Italy. The students were housed in the families of the Romanian children to practice English speaking, to know some Romanian words, to be in direct contact with the daily routines of the Romanians. Teachers and pupils attended the activities of the host school every day. The activities specified in the financing letter were organized, such as:
Funny scientific experiments for pre-schoolers using STEAM method
How are the clouds made? ( science for primary)
Eratosthenes’ experiment (math for gymnasium)
How does the hydraulic turbine work ? (experiment)- gymnasium at technology class.
What is the fermentation? Types of fermentation- gymnasium, biology class. Visit to the Yeast Factory, Pascani
CLIL lessons
To these activities were added the activities specific to the second year of the project - Food, fuel for the body, such as: a research on the most consumed food by the families of the students, during one week, informative activity at the Bread Factory and the Cow Farm in the suburb, documentary activities at the Etnographic Museum in Iasi and Botanical Garden in Iasi, interactive activity for the discovery of the most important buildings in the historical centre of Iasi, workshops - pottery, cooking and sewing at Pascani Special Secondary School, visiting the city of Pascani, STEAM activities in the school: making/creating a healthy menu, from where is food imported, how is bread made, spectacular experiments with Chemistry teacher, planting seeds and their germination, what food is necessary for a healthy meal, how to conserve food, how to do it, learning activities using theatre, sports, music and drawing, etc. For the teachers, the following activities were carried out: meeting with a university professor at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi and evaluation discussions, applied questionnaires for evaluation, reflection activities with school teachers and special secondary teachers, meeting with parents, a meeting with the representatives of Pascani City Hall, presentation of the eTwinning project dissemination page, presentation of the school website, the Romanian educational system, and the results of research on food consumed by pupils from different countries. We mention that there was no visit to the mini-hydropower plant on the Siret river because it was not allowed access during the meeting. We mention that we will conduct a documentary activity with our students at another hydropower plant and we will share the evidence of doing this. Mobility in Romania took place in the second year of the project for the following reasons:
The Romanian coordinator was not sure to find enough families willing to host foreign children in a short time - the first project management meeting was in December and Romania was to be the first learning activity in January 2018; The Greek coordinator requested a warmer visit to Romania because in January the weather is very cold in Romania; also flights to Romania involve many stopovers, which is not very good in the cold season; flight costs are very high in winter.
