EXPRESSIVE TEXTS II (Winter & Christmas Poetry)

  • FINLAND These poems and pictures are made by our 5th and 6th graders. The most difficult part of the work was to translate the poems from Finnish to English. If you write a poem in Finnish with rhymes, for us it's impossible to translate it in English so that the meaning is going to be the same. So we made different stories in Finnish than in English. Writing the translated texts using Biteslide was one of the easiest part of the project, though our student haven't used Biteslide before. How to use Biteslide the students were studying together co-operatively without any help from teacher. That was one of the main goals of this project.     -Hope you'll get some of the Christmas Spirit by watching these.  (Notice: in Finland Santa brings Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve.)

    ROMANIA

In children’s mind the rhyme is equal to the poem, because rhyme and rhythm together give the musicality of a poem.

Our pupils learned the concept of the poem through the rhyme games.

The secondary school students wrote poems in English, Romanian and Hungarian languages and the elementary school students illustrated them.

    SPAIN

Our younger students did an excellent job learning some Christmas and Winter poems.

The 3-year-olds learned a Christmas poem about a snowman.  Look how well they performed it and sang it.

The 4-year-olds learned a poem that rhymes:

And they also record this video for you to see how well they did it:

Here you can see our 5-year-olds reciting a poem called "I'm a Little Penguin".

Year 1 and Year 2 students did some visual poems using Christmas words.  They used a computer program and chose the shape they wanted for their poems. Some children wrote the poems in Spanish, others in Catalan and others in English.  Let's see if you like them.

Our year 5 and year 6 students have been learning about POETRY both in English and Spanish.  They have written some Acrostic Christams poems in the English class and some Winter poems in the Spanish class.  We hope you like them. They used the program PicMonkey to present those poems in a beautiful way.  HAVE a LOOK AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

    UK

In the UK we looked at a range of images to encourage description, ready for our poetry writing.

We then looked at some examples of traditional winter poems and identified common themes:

We then wrote our own winter poems using personification, similes and metaphors.
