20th April-Starlight World Night

  • World Night in Defence of Starlight

    Made with Padlet

Looking up at the canopy of space for stargazing is a wonderful experience we can freely have. Do you think we can do it forever?

Since 2007, World Night in Defence of Starlight is celebrated with different actions and initiatives to promote its protection.

"Declaration of La Palma in Defence of the Night Sky and the Right to Observe the Stars", considering the dark sky  an outstanding, universal cultural, scientific, environmental  resource  to promote and develop “astronomical tourism”

Have you ever celebrated it? What did you do?

We are going to share your night sky view. On 20th April, take a picture from your window or the place you like the most at night and upload it on the Padlet.

We will check if we can see the stars, the light pollution and the horizon in our different cities and share with our partners. What can you see? How does it make you feel?

Can't you see them clearly? Have a look at Hubble space telescope!

It orbits far above the Earth which makes objects can see more clearly as clouds can block the view of the Earth-based telescopes

Light pollution prevents us from seeing the wonder of the star-filled sky, it was sad, but it served to make us realise the beauty we are missing out on.
