The ERASMUS project participated in the André Parent Prize.
The subject on plant growth modelling, presented by Diana-Maria, Daria, Georgios, Evan, Sacha and Théïs, had applied for the André Parent prize last March. The aim of the competition is to highlight the value of a research work by a group on a scientific subject in which mathematics plays a key role, while remaining accessible to a wide audience. In order to be selected, the dossier had to meet several criteria: mathematical subject, mastery of the subject, rigour of the proposed reasoning and quality of the presentation before an audience.
At the beginning of May, the students learned that their entry had been selected and that they had to present it to the jury at the Salon de la Culture et des Jeux Mathématiques, traditionally in Paris, but this year in virtual form. Rehearsals and a presentation at the MATh.en.JEANS congress enabled the young people from the Colégiul National Emil Racovita and the Lycée Val de Durance to give a 20-minute performance to the public and members of the jury present at this virtual mathematics fair. Let's hope that we will be able to repeat this adventure, in person, next year in Paris.
