  • Apple Strudel
    Apple strudel is a traditional Czech pastry that has its origin in Austrian cuisine. It’s a very popular dessert in Czech cuisine and across Central Europe thanks to the history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Apple strudel is quite easy to prepare thanks to the option of buying prepared pastry dough.

    Ingredients:
    phyllo or flaky pastry
    4-6 apples
    cinnamon, sugar
    egg
    powdered sugar
    raisins, walnuts (optional)

    Instructions:
    1 Roll out the pastry in a slim rectangle.


    2 Grate apples and put them on the dough. Add raisins or chopped walnuts if you want.


    3 Sprinkle apples with cinnamon sugar. 

    Roll up dough into a long cylinder and close both ends.                     

    5 At last brush strudel with whisked egg.


    6 Put in preheated oven 180 - 200°C for about 20 minutes until strudel has nice golden colour.


    7 Dust with powdered sugar. Apple strudel can be served with whipped cream.

     

    Garlic soup
     

    Ingredients

    250 g potatoes
    3-4 cloves of garlic
    1.5 l of water
    marjoram, salt
    1 beef bouillon cube
    1 egg
    2 slices of bread

    Instructions:
    1 Cut the bread into cubes and toast.
    2 Cut the potatoes into cubes, put them in cold water and boil them.
    3 When the potatoes are tender, add the broth cube, marjoram, salt and crushed garlic.
    4 The total boiling time should be about 25 minutes, depending on the size of the potatoes
    5 Finally, add the poached egg.

    Notes: This Czech soup is very popular in cold winter days. You can use a vegetable bouillon cube.

    Czech Meatloaf
    Meatloaf is a favourite Czech meal, but also a favourite in other countries across the world. Here is a classic easy Czech meatloaf recipe, but you can come across filled meatloaf with gherkin, sausage and egg.

    Ingredients:
    1kg of ground meat (mixed beef and pork)
    1-2 onions
    3-4 garlic cloves
    2 eggs
    salt, pepper
    marjoram
    2 old rolls
    200ml of milk
    breadcrumbs
    oil

    Instructions:
    1 Cut rolls into small cubes and pour milk over them.                             

    2 Chop onion and fry shortly.                                                                      

    3 Mix meat with salt, pepper, minced garlic, marjoram, eggs and fried onion.                                                                                                   

    4 Also add soaked rolls from milk.                                                               

    5 Mix all together and add breadcrumbs if needed. Meat shouldn’t be too sticky but also not covered in breadcrumbs.                              

    6 Form in 2 loaves and put in greased pan.                                                

    7 Put in preheated oven 180 -200°C for 60 - 75 minutes. Sometimes pour a little water and baste.
    8 Serve with potatoes, mashed potatoes or simply bread.
