NOT for the mine of zinc and lead in our area.

Plans to build a zinc and lead mine in the Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska (Cracow Czestochwa Upland) are information that shocked us a lot.

It is to be built on forest areas of around 250 ha that will have to be grubbed up in the middle of the Upland. The area will be needed for two adits with a length of about 2 km, reaching the deposit, processing plant and a flotation pond at least the size of the Wisła Czarne water reservoir. This pond will store everything that is extracted from the ground and is not needed for the production of lead and zinc concentrate. These will include, among others, highly poisonous elements: cadmium, arsenic, lead, thallium, gallium and germanium.

Residents of Jurassic region protested against the construction of a zinc and lead ore mine. They chanted the slogans "Not for mine" and "Down with mine". Our school joined the protest. We don't want to live in a polluted environment. We realise it threatens future generations!

During the lessons of  English the students of the 7th grade got to know vocabulary connected with natural environment and deepened their knowledge on the this theme. They prepared and presented special multimedia presentations about the environment protection. They worked out their own ideas how to protect the environment.

TECHNOLOGY LESSONS

On the basis of Technology lessons online in Poland, we desinged our own robots in LEGO DIGITAL DESIGNER (LDD). The idea of the robot - a guard patrolling the water reservoirs, so that people do not pollute them.

Desalination is the process of obtaining fresh water from seawater

There are many problems relating to the water supply in the Canary Islands, such as the scarcity of natural resources of drinking water, energy issues, dependency, and
overexploitation. Some of these problems are common to many other areas in Europe.
Technologies and innovatory systems have been applied over time to improve the situation in the Canary Islands, such as importing water by tanker ships, first and building the first desalination plant in Spain in the year 1964 (the 24th plant in the whole world).
The evolution of desalination technologies in the Canary Islands has been dependent on many factors such as volumes, type of plants, recovery rates, the companies involved, among many others, but the authorities, universities and general population have contributed to the success stories through education, research, doctoral theses, papers, and many different innovative projects. Nowadays, the Canary Islands continues to face the challenge of scarce natural resources and is working on new and more sustainable desalination technologies. Special focus has been placed on the use of renewable energies to reduce CO2 emissions. 

On the island of Tenerife there are 6 desalination plants that produce an amount equivalent to 40 Olympic swimming pools each day or, what is the same, 100,000 cubic meters. Most desalination plants work by reverse osmosis . It basically consists of circulate high- pressure salt water through a semi-permeable membrane that rejects practically all of the dissolved salts, therefore that we get almost distilled water, of such purity that it must be remineralized to allow human consumption.
