Exchange in Tenerife

    PROGRAMME

    Day 1

    Welcome, integration activities, visiting the Spanish school, participation in lessons; LEGO challenge – Mars mission – developing students’ creativity and innovativeness; sports workshops – Canarian wrestling, which is a traditional sport that is only practiced in the Canary Islands (Spanish students teach Polish students some basic rules);

     

    Visiting La Laguna (UNESCO World Heritage list) and Santa Cruz – the capital of Tenerife -description of nature in English.

     

    Day 2

    A visit to the ITER in Granadilla - the best research center in the Canary Islands in the field of renewable energy: photovoltaic, wind, use in homes, lecture on the construction of 25 prototypical houses with sustainable architecture; after the visit the students designed a virtual model of an ecological housing estate (e.g. in Corel) - cooperation in international groups.

    Field activities -Teide National Park, the third largest volcano on Earth (UNESCO World Heritage list); discussion on volcano energy, working in international groups - brainstorming -the ecological value of a volcano.

    Day 3

    A visit to a hotel Blue Sea Puerto Resort - a tour of the hotel , interview with a hotel manager – research on electricity and water consumption by tourism as well as the amount of rubbish that tourism generates - work in international groups -creating slogans encouraging to protect the environment.

     

     

     

    Day 4

    Visiting Puerto de La Cruz -admiring impressive views and beach with black sand; ocean views - taking pictures together.

    Day 5

    Field activities: Loro Park  -discussion; lecture on plants and animals characteristic for Tenerife, examples of good ecosystem – e.g. whales

     

    Day 6

    The Oxford debate on climate change and the hole in the ozone layer. The debate was recorded and presented to the students, parents, representatives of the local community and educational authorities.

    Language workshops -creating a trilingual mini- dictionary -energy 2 part.

    Summary meeting - presentation of the results and final products of exchange for pupils, parents, local community; presentation of a typical Canary folclore costume and instruments - performance; refreshments - Spanish cuisine; radio interview – dissemination of the project and mobility to Tenerife; certificates of attendance.
