    Visit to ITER

Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies

We visited the ITER, where we were able to see the bioclimatic houses within this technological institute.

During this visit, the students enjoyed the Paseo de Energías Renovables, an informative outdoor area, equipped with an exhibition tour about renewable energies and their technologies. In this area, several facilities were shown in order to bring our students closer to the interesting world of renewable energy.

In addition to knowing projects developed by ITER, they had the great opportunity to meet several bioclimatic houses, their design and the techniques in renewable energy and energy efficiency used in the different houses. It is a magnificent space for dissemination and awareness of the application of bioclimatic principles in construction.

A visit to the WIND POWER PLANT in Gaj Olawski

Thanks to the visit to the wind farm in Gaj OĊ‚awski, we had the opportunity to see with our own eyes what the windmills installed there look like. The latest technology is used in their construction, they are the first windmills of this type currently produced. The construction of such a windmill takes about a month. This is a prototype - the latest type of windmill. Its height is about 110 meters. We measured the length of the propeller by ourselves, which is approx. 60 metres. The turbine has a capacity of 4.5 MW. In a modern power warehouse, excess of wind energy is stored, and when the windmill is not spinning, the warehouse supports its operation by providing it with energy. It is worth remembering that wind is a renewable energy source, thanks to which we save on fuels, mining processes and subsequent transport. Wind turbines do not pollute the environment, so we hope that they will be used on a larger scale.

The lesson of Technology - Gorona del viento

This Tecnology lesson was about  the energy wind. On the island of El Hierro, wind energy is combined with hydraulic energy to obtain electrical energy, being a sustainable model. The classes continue and through the Cisco webex platform, the students received a lesson on wind energy and its combination with hydropower to generate clean energy on the island of El Hierro, an example of a sustainable island.

Working on the project, we created a project of a mini wind farm. Wind energy supplies households with electricity and drives external devices such as a carousel.

A simple example to demonstrate thermal energy. The air in a can of soda is heated, transformed into steam and moves the blades of the mill.

    WINDMILL

We used Lego Engineering Projects to construct a Lego windmill. The windmill is a great example of Wind Power STEM Challenge. We can see how the wind power station works. While working on this project we discussed where wind comes from, learnt ways we can harness energy from wind and demonstrated turbines and renewable energy with our LEGO windmills.
