Saint Nicholas Day
Our students have been good boys and girls this year, so they cleaned their shoes or boots and left them in the window on 5th December. If they were good, it is believed St. Nicholas will fill the shoes with candy by the morning.
However, St. Nicholas doesn’t travel alone. He is always in the company with the devilish Krampus. This creature leaves tree branches for naughty children, suggesting they need a spanking. They are often coloured in golden yellow.
The 6th of December is the Feast Day of St. Nicholas. This year, it was Sunday and there was no school, so we celebrated it on Monday, 7th December.
Thanksgiving Day
On Friday, 9th October, we celebrated Thanksgiving Day at our school. We gave thanks for our daily bread. In Croatia this is a special ''Day of Bread'' or ''Dan kruha''.
The younger grades had many activities. They also brought bread, cakes and other baked goods from home for the celebration. The elder students worked on presentations about the food pyramid and healthy foods. There was also a presentation “Bread around the world“.Then we shared what we had made and brought to school. It was a very exciting day for all.
Tena had a good time with her friends.
