    ZUBIALDE HLHI ( Zeberio)

ZUBIALDE LHI is a Primary school situated in the the  Basque Country ( north of Spain) . It is the only school in a small village called Zeberio( about 1100 inhabitants).  Zeberio is about 18 km from the city of Bilbao.

There are few students so pupils from two different levels gather in the same course. The fact of gathering such a diversity in each classroom has driven the school to look for an integrating methodological approach that allows every single student to build up his/her own learning in a constant and fluent interaction with mates and teachers.

Helping students to understand the world and provide the skills they need to face real life is the school´s docent assigment´s driving force. Students develop the curriculum by working on the topics  they are interested in. They choose and negociate with others what they want to learn about or what task they want to carry out. They achieve the course contents of the different subjects while working on projects like making and actual sized giraffe, looking into Ancient Egypt, writing news or organizing a competition. Any activity brings along a learning and this is something school  takes advantage of, leads and strengthens. All three languages students learn at school ( Basque, Spanish and English) are taught through content.

Students are continuously listening and talking to each other and negociating different ways to improve work which help them reason, develop a critical awareness and build up social skills.

School organizes a great bunch of activities through the school year like visits to different places according to the project students are working on, performances, meetings with other schools´ children, campsites... All of them are totally free for students because that is the only way to warrant everybody´s attendance and because that is the way we understand public education. This can be done thanks to the school community and specially parents that work throughout the year to raise money and to give equal opportunities to every single child.
