Visit to the National Historical Museum of Athens
On January 14th a wonderful experience awaited the students of Erasmus+ "A nod to our heritage" that visited the National Historical Museum in the Old Hellenic parliament of Athens.
The Old Parliament was built in 1858 by Queen Amalia and was designed by the French architect Francois Boulanger.
In 1935 the Parliament was moved at the Old Palace at syntagma square (Constitution Square), were it still functions even today, and the building of the Old Parliament was given to the National and Historical agency of Greece in order to be used as the site for the Museum of the National History, by order of the then Prime Minister of Greece, Eleutherios Venizelos.
The permanent exhibition covers the historical period from a few years before the fall of Constantinople, until the Greek-Italian war of 1940-1941.
The greater part of the exhibition, about three rooms including the hallways, are devoted to the Greek Revolution of 1821.
The exhibition presents the guns, the traditional dresses from many parts of Greece, an urn that holds the heart of Konstantinos Kanaris, many flags and banners used during the Revolution, jewelry and ceramics, as well as many furniture owned by historical persons of the 19th century. Most rooms hold paintings of Greek and foreign painters depicting many important historical persons of each period.

Saving the frescoes of our chapel
The West Ephorate of Antiquities participating in the celebration of the European Day of Conservation of European Heritage 2019 organized an event at the Acharnes Town Hall on Thursday, October 10th on "The contribution of conservation to the preservation of cultural heritage - the salvage interventions in the frescoes of St. John the Theologian in Acharnes.". Members of the pedagogical team and students of our school participating in our project, "A nod to our heritage", were present at the very interesting event concerning the chapel near the 1st High School of Acharnes. Students heard from experts how to rescue frescoes and watched related videos.
