European elections in Germany

  • We finished our information board in the break hall this morning:

We will hold our elections on Thursday, 2 May 2019. The results will be made official on Monday, 27 May 2019.

On the wall there are all information for each party so the students can decide for which party they would like to vote and their are posters where it says why it´s good to vote and that every vote counts.

We three students sat side by side and led the election. Together we showed the other students who took part in the election how it works. First of all, the students involved should go to Zehra (the left). Zehra collected their student IDs and gave them a big sheet with all the parties that were allowed to vote. Then the students went to the voting booths and tagged a parties they had chosen. You should fold the ballot 2 times and then go to us, who are responsible for the election Once they have decided, they went to Alina (the right) and told her they name. so that Alina could find her name in the list and cut her off. Then they throw the ballot into the ballot box where Larissa sits (the one in the middle).

Yesterday we made a junior election. The junior election is an election for all under-18s who were unable to attend the European elections. This election should show the students how such an election works but also how important it is to inform themselves about the established parties. It was exciting to see how such an election expires as we have done this ourselves. On the picture you can see a voting booth. There, our classmates went behind to vote. Since such a choice is a secret, it was forbidden to vote while voting, which most students did not really take seriously.

It was a very good experience. I enjoyed listening to the students before the elections started. We have hung a ballot paper so that students, before they vote, get a first impression of the whole party.

After looking at the ballot paper, the students have gotten a smaller version of the ballot paper with which they go behind polling booths and choose anonymously. We had 5 polling booths. After voting, the ballot paper was knocked in 2 times and carefully into the election rune, as in the real European elections. (Ali)
