The Greek school discussed today what it means to be a responsible voter.
Our conclusions
To be a responsible voter:
- You should know your rights and responsibilities as a citizen.
- You should be informed about what is happening in your country and in the world.
- You have to be free from prejudice.
- You must have figured what your principles and your values in life are.
- You need to look for the most responsible and inspiring representatives.
Most of the students do not feel ready to vote because:
- They do not feel that they can trust and be inspired by today’s leading politicians.
- They are afraid of making a wrong decision. They do not feel ready for such a serious responsibility which can determine the future of our country.
A quarter of the students stated that they feel ready to vote as they are informed about current affairs and have shaped their own political views and ideology.
The students prefer not to search online for political information as they often find it misleading and untrustworthy. They prefer to read newspapers. Others said that they are too busy with their school activities to worry about politics. Some also believe that they are too young to read about politics and feel it is an issue that does not interest them.
