Finland: Dissemination in other schools

  • VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE

In Finland the Basic Education system is built on smooth transition from comprehensive school to the secondary level - that being either a vocational institution/apprenticeship training or a general upper secondary school . This transition and its' preparations start at a very early stage - meaning that the pupils visit these different institutions and can think with their families which path is suitable just for them. All kind of students, pupils and people are needed in the society and therefore the lower secondary school is not preparing only to high-school/ upper secondary level or beyond but also towards vocational schools.

To bare this in mind we wanted to implement our good international culture to the next level and wanted to present our project to the teachers working in the vocational institute, so that also them would be encouraged to start some international co-operation with their respective institute or schools abroad. International skills and language skills are very important also for those people who are trained to work within service or maintenance field.

This time we wanted to hear about sustainable, farming and agriculture - how the plants are grown, how the animals are treated in a modern way. How the recycling is executed in the school and how they are planning to implement the schools' habits to the working life or even farming life in general. Are there any indicators that this institute follows nationally or internationally...

Institute that we visited and that welcomed us to a) see their work (internationally recognised) and to b) tell more about international co-operation and especially about Erasmus+ vocational training:

"Erasmus+ supports the professional development of people working in vocational education and training (VET) through training periods abroad.

Training periods can be work placements or job shadowing or observation periods at a VET institution or another relevant organisation based in an Erasmus+ Programme country.

Examples of such organisations include businesses, public bodies, social partners, research institutes and non-governmental organisations."
