Italy - Day 3

  • VISIT:  The Last Supper

Finally, the day to see the real painting of da Vinci came - The Last Supper. We had seen it in the videos, but it is something special to see it live.

To do it more exciting, before this visit, we decided to enter one of the oldest church in Milan,  Basilica of Saint Ambrosius. It was like a preparation - meeting with a piece of history, with a masterpiece.

And then... after a preparation, as we could not enter the room directly, we had to stop inside a glass room for a certain period to get rid of the dust and the pollutants of the world outside... 15 minutes of observation of Cenacolo, The last Supper. It 's  still here after about 500 years, humidity, WWII bombs and pollution... Why is so mysterious? Why is so famous?

VISIT: Navigli (Canals) The Requalified Area

After a long walk, we finished today´s activities in Navigli in the centre of Milan. We had the possibility to see the houses with specific balconies along the canals. We have understood that, formerly, there was a type of laundry in the canals.

Of course, as we are here during the Milan Design week we sow not only what had been planned,  but many artists related to this event. All the time surrounded by artistic pieces. This had happened the previous day too in the Brera District.

  • Today's Activities

    Group 1

1.We were blown away and fascinated by this fresco. It was very emotional and as it was really silent in the room, we got to appreciate the work of art.
2.One of the main problems is to create an adequate micro-climate and being able to restore works of art without ruining nor modifying them.
3.The reason why they were created and the fact that Leonardo da Vinci took part in the construction of them are both really interesting.
4.Seeing the Last Supper was a once in a lifetime experience, but it would've been better with a deeper explanation by a professional. While, regarding to the Navigli, the visit would've been more interesting with a trip on a boat.

    Group 5

    1.
We were astonished by the work of art and the details in it as well as the process behind it. It is very nice.

    2.

The most serious problems are probably restoring it without ruining it as well as maintaining a good enviroment for the work of art, for example to keep the humidity low so the painting does not get damaged.

    3.
The construction of the canal systems is really clever. The architecture behind it is obviously very thought-out and processed.

    4.
We think this was the best day of the week and we all want to go back to Milano and eat the pasta.

    Group 7

    1. It was impressive and we were speechless. We thought it would be smaller but it turnt out to be huge. Amazing. The preservation of the last supper was good it had a lot of color while being more than 500 years old.
    3. It was interesting even if we just walked around; and we took photos all together.
    4. We dont feel the need to add anything since we are happy with the day as it went.

    GROUP 2

    1. we were impressed for the dimension of the painting, was very realistic and beautiful.
    2. the most serious problem is the contamination that people can bring from the outside, that's why there is a special thing at the last supper that gets rid of it, so that the paint and the painting don't get damaged.
3.we think that navigli were beautiful but the water was too dirty.
    4. We think that it was a beautiful day but it would be better if we sailed on the canals to see the requalified areas

    Group 4

    1) It was breath taking, because you can not realize how big it is untill you see it. We really enjoyed it and we hope to see it again one day.
    2) in our opinion, the weather conditions can damage the works of art. We also think that people who do not understant how important a work of art is can seriously damage it.
    3) we found the landscape really interesting and amazing.
    4) we enjoyed it a lot and we hope to return.

    Group 3

    1. We think that it was amazing and that everyone should see that once in a lifetime as it's worth it. It's kind of amazing that a painting can last that long and that people still have the opportunity to visit it, even 500 years after.

    2. The problems you could face while restoring a work of art is that you have to be careful not to damage it and to maintain the original structure, it would be helpful not damaging the environment.
    3. We really enjoyed the view of the city from that position and we liked the history of the canals. We find it interesting that the canals are distributed through all Milan.
    4. We don't need to add anything for this day as it was perfect as it was. Moreover, we went all together shopping, had lunch and we had a great time together.

    GROUP 6

1.It was bigger than the expectations. It was incredible to see a painting created by such a famous artist. We could observe all the details of the masterpiece.
    2. We visited Saint Ambrogio’s church. It was an impressive place and we could see the crypt of the Saint with his body.
    3. It is really hard to preserve a work of art with a lot of visitors who are not always respectful. We also have to care about the humidity and the temperature

    Group 8

    1. We were speechless as soon as we entered the room. The atmosphere was special and let you get a sort of inner balance.
Some of us didn't even expect the masterpiece to be that big, but it was amazingly great.
2.Basically, the main cause of the ruin of artworks is humidity. Moreover, as we've been told, when people try to restore artworks, they can also demage them more.
    3. We found the fact that these canals were built a lot of time ago and also are extremely complex. These two facts are closely connected and that's what we found really interesting.
