Geometric pattern from the mosaic of a Roman villa

  • In this page, there is a presentation of the steps that the students followed in order to identify and reproduce the patterns of a mosaic exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Patras. The Greek students visited the mosaic at the local museum while their partners used the Greek students' photos in the Material section. Then they chose the right grid from the page 'Geometric constructions and patterns' with the help of their teachers. They reproduced the pattern by hand and then on Geogebra. All the products were compared and analysed in one of the conferences.

    We need to add

    1) horizontal and perpendicular lines (pink lines) coming through the points of intersection of the purple lines

    2) diagonal lines (light blue) from the mean point of the side of the blue squares

    3) last, we erase the circles.

On the last grid, we create the geometric pattern of the mosaic

    by hand

    and by using Geogebra.
