Geometric pattern from the mosaic with Triton

  • In this page, there is a presentation of the steps that the students followed in order to identify and reproduce the pattern of the mosaic featuring Triton, exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Patras.

    First, the students observed the mosaic (the Greek students visited it at the local museum while the others used their photos in the Material section). Then they chose the right grid from the ones given in the page 'Geometric constructions and patterns' with the guidance of their teachers. They reproduced the pattern on the grid, then drew it by hand  and finally used Geogebra. The theme of the mosaic was the focus of one of the Treasure Hunts (Mythological Personalities that can be found in the mosaics) with all the students contributing information about this mythological figure.

    We need to add horizontal and perpendicular lines coming through the points of intersection of the circles and last erase the circles.
