LO im. S. Żeromskiego - Life-giving water

  • LIFE-GIVING WATER

As part of the topic "Life-giving water", we planned with partners to analyse the chemical composition of water in our cities and the study problems of water purification for municipal needs and wastewater treatment, as well as learn about sources of mineral and geothermal waters and their use in our countries, with particular emphasis on balneotherapy.
In school year 2018/2019, in our school we dealt only with the issue of mineral waters and balneology, preparing a presentation on hydrotherapy in Poland, in which we presented the use of mineral waters in medicine, the most important mineral waters found in Poland and the main Polish health resorts using balneotherapy. The presentation was shown at a project meeting in Sliema, Malta.

We are planning to work on the remaining issues, including a trip to the Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment Plants in Żyrardów and Mazovian Geothermy in Mszczonów at the beginning of the next school year.

The chemical group also carried out several experiments to study the properties of water, such as obtaining an aqueous colloidal solution, testing the behavior of water in the presence of metals, and testing the solubility of substances in water depending on their structure.
