LO im. S. Żeromskiego - Visit to the Institute for Nuclear Physics in Cracow

  • VISIT TO THE INSTITUTE FOR NUCLEAR PHYSICS IN CRACOW

On May 28, 2019, participants of the Erasmus + Project 'Science around us' from our school took part in activities organized by the Institute for Nuclear Physics in Krakow.

34 students had the opportunity to listen to a lecture on cosmic radiation, its interaction with the Earth's atmosphere and methods of its registration.

Then we watched a demonstration of experiments on the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction, the formation of eddy currents and the effect of magnetic fields on metals.

We also visited the Superconductivity Laboratory, where the students conducted several experiments on liquid nitrogen and tested the behaviour of superconductors in a magnetic field.

Later we went to the Nuclear Fusion Laboratory, where they got acquainted with the principle of plasma foccusing and learned about the construction and operation of a plasma focusing apparatus. We also had the opportunity to see the apparatus.
