Museu Alberto Sampaio

  • Alberto Sampaio Museum  was founded in 1928 to house the art and other objects belonging to the former Collegiate Church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira and other churches and convents in Guimarães. It is situated in the heart of the old historic centre of the city, which has been classified as World Heritage. The museum is housed in three areas that once belonged to the Collegiate Church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira: the Chapter House, the Cloister and the Priory. The Cloister is an unusual example of Portuguese architecture, both in the way it was constructed around the apse of the church and its irregular shape. The Museum contains collections of great interest: sculptures, painting, frescoes and textiles.

Before the visit, students were asked to do a research using online tools, books or interviews to local people to discover mouments classified by UNESCO as Worl Heritage all around the world and in Guimarães. Then each student prepared a powerpoint presentation with the highlights of the research. The best presentations was selected to share with the Erasmus group during the short term exchange of pupils.

During the visit, students had the chance to explore objects that are part of the Museum collection using the interactive Action Bound App created by the teaching team together with the Museum staff for the students, aiming the understanding of some of the pieces of the collection as well as the discovery of the monument.

After the visit the students were asked how to organize a digital collection with education items from the Museum Corner created in school for the purpose of MEDE Erasmus project. They were asked to use museography techniques concerning the cataloguing and the description of the selected objects.
